We manufacture cashmere and wool socks for men and women. This blend of cashmere and wool will provide you with extreme softness while keeping you warm.

Our cashmere socks are knitted in France in our workshop in Montceau-les-Mines. Our production and expertise are the result of our know-how: Since 1930, we have been knitting socks that provide you with comfort and protection.

Cashmere: Origin, Legend, and History

Legend has it that the first garment made of cashmere was a pair of socks given to the king of Persia. Centuries later, it was a Frenchman, Jean-Baptiste Decrétot, a manufacturer of cloth in Normandy at the end of the 18th century, who introduced cashmere to Europe. Throughout the centuries and across all continents, cashmere has always been synonymous with luxury and elegance. Cashmere originates from cashmere goats raised in a territory that stretches from Kashmir, on the Indo-Pakistani border, to Mongolia.

In winter, a fine and soft undercoat doubles the summer coat of cashmere goats to protect them from an extremely harsh climate (up to -40°C). In spring, these hairs are sheared from the animals' chests. After several processing stages, these hairs will produce cashmere wool.

An Exceptional Product

A single cashmere goat produces only 100 grams of cashmere per year, and the entire global production of cashmere represents barely more than 0.5% of the total wool production. This helps us understand why cashmere is truly an exceptional fiber.

Several Things to Know About Cashmere

Fineness and Strength

The particularity of cashmere wool is that it is composed of fibers that are 3 times more insulating, softer, and finer than fibers such as merino wool. Cashmere wool is incredibly soft because its fibers are exceptionally fine. They are 6 times finer than our hair! And not only are they fine, but also particularly strong. If you care for your cashmere socks according to the recommended instructions, you can keep them for a very long time.

Warmth and Softness

Although extremely fine, cashmere fibers are exceptionally warm and insulating. In fact, their primary function is to protect cashmere goats from the winter cold in these regions, which sometimes reaches -40°C. It is commonly estimated that cashmere wool is three times warmer and more insulating than sheep's wool. Therefore, it is not surprising that when these fibers are used to make the wonderful Monnet cashmere socks, they offer you a unique sensation combining warmth, softness, and comfort.
