The name "Scottish thread" is misleading since the material used is simply cotton, and it does not come from Scotland.
However, the process used to transform cotton into a unique thread was indeed developed by a Scottish engineer in the 18th century. It was Mr. John Mercer who originated the "mercerization" process which led to the creation of Scottish thread. This process results in making the cotton more resistant, finer, and softer than untreated cotton.
To produce Scottish thread, you need an ultra high-quality cotton:
- the fibers must be as long as possible: to achieve durable socks
- the chosen cotton must be flawless from the harvest: the cleaning process would damage this fragile fiber too much
- the cotton must be as white as possible: cotton that is not perfectly white would be difficult to dye

Over time, you will notice that the socks maintain their support on your foot. Well-placed reinforcements allow our socks to withstand daily friction without tearing.
